Spotlight on ... Health Information Week

30/6/2017

What is it?
Health Information Week is an annual campaign in the first full week of July that aims to raise awareness of health information resources available to all. The Library and Knowledge Service will be taking part in this campaign throughout the week of 3rd – 9th July, signposting patients and the public, as well as NHS employees, to trusted health information sources.

Why is it useful?
It is essential that quality information is provided to people to enable them to better manage their health and wellbeing and make fully informed decisions about their treatment and care.
  • HIW encourages partnership working across sectors and it is hoped that this wider collaboration will benefit staff and the public.
  • In England, 42% of working-age adults (aged 16-65) are unable to understand or make use of everyday health information.
  • A wealth of health-related information is also available on the Internet. However, not all of it is reliable and accurate.

Where can I find out more?
A Health Information booklet can be collected from the library at any point throughout the week.  This includes:
  • Details of the library resources available to patients, public and NHS employees.
  • Guidance on sourcing trusted health information on the internet.
There will also be an information display outside the Treetops restaurant that will be staffed at various times throughout the week providing the opportunity to ask questions and gain additional information.

Our Clinical Outreach Librarian, Anne Webb, will be attending July’s ‘Health Matters’ event on 4th July 7-8pm in the Lecture Theatre.

If you have any additional questions please contact the Library on 01625 661362 or email ecn-tr.stafflibrary@nhs.net.
