Library Services

Facilitating evidence-based decision making

The Library & Knowledge Service is here to help you make a difference, and to help inform your decision-making. We can help you to keep up-to-date with the latest evidence and ensure that you are able to make the best use of the resources available to you.

Opening hours

24/7 access with your Trust ID badge. Items can be borrowed, renewed and returned using the self-service machine. Study and computing facilities are also available 24/7.

Staffed: Monday-Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm. Unstaffed weekends and public holidays.

Books

You may borrow up to 12 items for 4 weeks. Most book loans are automatically renewed 5 times, unless reserved. Other items are renewable by phone, email or online.

Fiction and wellbeing

There is a collection of fiction books available for you to borrow. We welcome donations of recently published fiction. 
A Kindle is also available to borrow, pre-loaded with fiction e-books.

We also have a Wellbeing collection, with health stories and self-help books.

Inter-library requests

Any books or journal articles not available from the Library resources (print and online) are usually available on inter-library loan.

KnowledgeShare is our targeted current awareness service. We’ll let you know when we find high-impact publications in your area, including guidelines, policy and high-level research evidence.

Laptops and IT Equipment

12 laptops are available for trust staff and learners to borrow for online training, courses and meetings. ​

Webcams and headsets are also available, to borrow or use in the library.

Computers

PCs are available for trust staff to drop-in and use 24/7. All have Microsoft Office, internet and ESR / e-learning. Printing, photocopying and scanning are available.
There is accessibility equipment available for use in the library, including colour overlays, magnifier sheets, and alternative keyboards and mice. For help finding or using this equipment, ask a member of library staff.

Study areas

Individual and group study areas are available in the Library. Study spaces have power sockets and/or PCs. Individual pods are available for Teams calls, which can be booked in advance through UBook or by asking a member of staff. For help using uBook, access the guide at the link below.

Training

The library runs a number of different courses, which can be arranged for 1:1 or small group sessions. We can provide training in the library or come to your place of work. Contact the library for more information or to book a session. Current courses include:

  • Introduction to Critical Appraisal
  • How to do a Systematic Review
  • Social Media in the Workplace
  • Basic IT Skills Support

We can also attend team meetings or training events to demonstrate resources, from a quick 5 minute demo to more advanced training.

Library standards

The Library & Knowledge Service works to the following standards to deliver a high quality, responsive service to all its users.
The library aims to fulfill the following service requests within the time frame detailed below:
    Inter-library loans:    5 working days
    Evidence searches:   by user deadline
    Enquiries:                 3 working days
    Stock processing:     10 working days

How to find us

We are located in the LE&D Hub on the 1st floor of New Alderley House, on the Macclesfield District General Hospital site. Directions and maps can be found by clicking the map below. Parking information is available on the East Cheshire NHS Trust website.
