Spotlight on ... Evidence-Based Practice

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is the integration of best research evidence with clinical expertise and patient values. It means that when health professionals make a treatment decision with their patient, they base it on their clinical expertise, the preferences of the patient, and the best available evidence.

​Evidence-based practice is a cyclical process which includes:

• Formulating a clinical question
• Searching (and finding) the evidence
• Appraising the evidence
• Incorporating evidence into decision making
• Evaluating the process

The Library and Knowledge Service exist to facilitate this process for you so if you require an evidence search for any improvements you want to make then please don’t hesitate to ask.

We can also provide training on EBP in your workplace. Please note that we also have access to a network of Clinical Librarians so can sometimes obtain unpublished information such as work and initiatives from other NHS trusts. ​
