Care Certificate resources

The Care Certificate is a set of 16 standards that health and care professionals adhere to in their working life. The Care Certificate is aimed at HCAs and other non-regulated staff groups. ​​The 16 standards are:

Library resources

The Library has some textbooks specifically for HCAs, as well as lots of other books which will be useful for doing the Care Certificate and as you develop your skills and knowledge. All East Cheshire NHS Trust HCAs are able to join the library and borrow books. If you are unsure where to start please speak to a member of library staff and we will be happy to help you.

Royal Marsden Manual

The Royal Marsden Manual of Clinical Nursing Procedures is available to borrow from the library and also available as an e-book. Access from hospital computers without needing to login - open the Start Menu on the PC and scroll down the list of programs to the Royal Marsden. Access from elsewhere with an NHS Athens username and password.​

Improve your core skills

Access free online tutorials to help you improve your English and maths skills. Some examples are:
  • ​Core skills tutorials from GFC Learn Free, includes modules on maths and writing, reading and personal finances.
  • National Numeracy Challenge - free resources to improve your maths skills.
  • Skills for life and functional skills.

Improve your IT skills

There are lots of free online resources to help you improve your IT skills. The library also has a collection of books on how to use Microsoft Office which you can borrow. Some examples of online resources are:
  • Microsoft Office online tutorials from GFC Learn Free: brush up on your Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook skills. These are delivered in short, easy to understand sections, with examples to download and work books to follow. There are also modules on Basic IT Skills, including a mouse tutorial and typing tutorial; online safety and social media.
  • ​Microsoft Office online tutorials from Microsoft.
  • ​Typing tutorial: learn how to touch type to speed up your typing and improve the accuracy.

Communication skills

The library has books to help you improve your English language and communication skills, and an English Language Knowledge Hub with links to lots of free online resources, including the 'Healthy English' e-learning developed at East Cheshire NHS Trust.
